Song Brocade Jacket

This jacket is cut from silk brocade in 100% silk, self-lined in matching heavyweight silk — nothing synthetic, inside or out. A hand-embroidered butterfly in gold and garnet thread sits at the back yoke and cuffs, finished with beaded fringe. Relaxed silhouette, wide dolman sleeves, open front, shawl collar.

The brocade technique dates back nearly a thousand years, to a weaving method so demanding it was reserved for imperial courts — silk warp and weft threads built the pattern together on the loom, rather than one carrying color and the other structure, with three separate silk wefts interlaced by hand-guided shuttle to form the design. It remains one of the most labor-intensive weaves in textile history.
